Loving Lord, today’s Gospel tells us that there are “those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.” The last few weeks have been incredibly difficult for so many people. We come before you, bringing ourselves and all those who struggle for survival, knowing that you love us more than we can imagine.
We pray for all religious leaders. May we listen and respond to their challenge to show compassion to people who need our understanding and support.
We pray for governments in their search for peace, security, and dialogue, especially in areas of conflict. May the Holy Spirit guide them in wisdom and truth. May they seek to serve rather than to be served.
We pray for people who have been affected by floods, fire, drought, and other recent natural disasters. May they find the courage and support they need to repair the damage and rebuild their lives. May those who have died rest in peace and those who mourn be comforted.
We pray for all those who are receiving exam results. May they follow their dreams of a future which is full of life, security, and happiness.
We pray for everyone who is finding it hard to make ends meet. May their difficulties have straightforward, practical solutions which will make their lives easier.
We pray for ourselves and all those whom we know and love. May we find, every day, a reason to smile.
Lord of life and love, fill us with your goodness. Lead us ever closer to you and to each other. Amen.
