A Service of the Word.
Order of Service for The Sunday next before Lent
GREETING:
The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
The Lord is my strength and my song:
And he has become my salvation.
Sing to the Lord, for he has done gloriously:
Let this be known in all the earth.
The Lord is our light and our life:
Come, let us worship.
PENITENCE:
As we recall our disobedience to God’s commandments, and our failure to do his will; let us kneel and confess our sins to God our Father:
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
we have sinned in thought and word and deed,
through negligence, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault.
We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ who died for us,
forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may serve you in newness of life
to the glory of your name. Amen.
If no priest is present the following prayer is used instead:
Merciful Lord,
grant to your faithful people pardon and peace,
that we may be cleansed from all our sins,
and serve you with a quiet mind;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
ACCLAMATION
Stand
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
We give you thanks, our God and Father,
for you have created us and you sustain us.
Through your only Son Jesus Christ
you have revealed your love and your care for all your people;
you are ready to forgive and to save in time of need;
so we proclaim your glory, saying:
Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
Almighty Father,
whose Son was revealed in majesty
before he suffered death upon the cross:
give us grace to perceive his glory,
that we may be strengthened to suffer with him
and be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

THE REFLECTION
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Do you believe and trust in God the Father,
creator of heaven and earth?
I believe and trust in him.
Do you believe and trust in his Son, Jesus Christ,
who redeemed the world?
I believe and trust in him.
Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit
who gives life to the people of God?
I believe and trust in him.
This is the faith of the Church.
This is our faith.
We believe and trust in one God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
THE PRAYERS
Gracious and loving God,
we thank you for giving us power,
through your Spirit, to reveal your life to the world:
strengthen, bless and guide us to make you known
by word and example…….
We are your Church, O God:
Guide us in your grace.
Let us sum up our prayers and praises in the words our Saviour Christ has taught us and say:
Our Father…..
THE DISMISSAL AND BLESSING.
Grant, O Lord,
that as we leave this house
we may not leave your presence.
Be ever near us and keep us close to you,
now and for ever. Amen.
